The App Launch
Anthropic launched the Claude iOS app on June 10, 2025, with an Android version following shortly after. Prior to this, Claude was only accessible via claude.ai (web) or the API. The native app delivered a meaningfully superior mobile experience: faster loading, native keyboard integration, push notifications for long-running tasks, and iOS Shortcuts integration for quick access.
Projects Feature
Projects was the standout new feature — persistent conversation contexts organised into named projects. Each Project maintains a shared context window across all conversations within it, allowing Claude to remember previous discussions, uploaded documents, and established preferences. A user could have separate Projects for different clients, subject areas, or ongoing tasks, with Claude maintaining appropriate context in each.
Voice Input
Native voice input used iOS's built-in speech recognition for transcription, with Claude processing the transcribed text normally. Unlike OpenAI's voice mode, which uses a speech-to-speech model, Claude's voice input was text-mediated — lower latency overhead, but without the natural vocal expressiveness of GPT-4o voice. For most input use cases (dictating messages, asking questions hands-free), the transcription approach was entirely adequate.
Document Handling
The app supported PDF and image uploads, with Claude able to analyse, summarise, and answer questions about uploaded content. The iOS Files integration allowed direct selection from iCloud Drive, allowing seamless document workflows for iPhone users already using Apple's ecosystem for document management.
What This Means for Indian Businesses
Claude's iOS app significantly expands its accessibility to Indian users who primarily access the internet via smartphone rather than desktop. The Projects feature — which maintains context across multiple conversations organised by topic — is particularly useful for Indian entrepreneurs managing multiple business verticals. Document upload support means users can photograph a contract or business document and analyse it directly in Claude without needing a scanner or desktop computer.
