Copilot Everywhere

Microsoft's April 2025 Copilot update brought meaningful capability improvements across its entire Office 365 suite. In Word, Copilot could now autonomously research and draft entire documents by searching the web, consulting internal SharePoint files, and synthesising information — not just completing sentences, but building full-length reports from a brief prompt. In Excel, Copilot could identify trends, suggest pivot table configurations, and write complex formulas from natural language descriptions.

Meeting Intelligence in Teams

Teams Copilot received the most impactful improvements. In addition to existing transcription and summarisation, Teams Copilot could now generate action items, assign them to meeting participants by name, and push those items into Microsoft Planner or assigned Tasks — creating a complete meeting-to-task workflow without any manual intervention. The system's accuracy at attributing statements to the correct speaker improved significantly with updated speaker identification models.

Outlook Scheduling and Email

In Outlook, Copilot's email drafting capabilities expanded to include context from previous email threads, calendar availability, and company-wide communication patterns. The scheduling assistant could propose meeting times by analysing all participants' calendars, considering time zones, and even suggesting agenda items based on the stated meeting purpose.

Copilot Studio for Custom Agents

Microsoft also significantly enhanced Copilot Studio — its low-code platform for building custom AI agents on top of Microsoft's infrastructure. Enterprises could now build agents that operated within Microsoft 365's security model, with full audit logging and data residency controls, connecting to internal databases, APIs, and SharePoint content libraries without data leaving the organisation's Microsoft tenant.

What This Means for Indian Businesses

Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 is priced at approximately Rs 2,500 per user per month as an add-on to existing M365 subscriptions. For Indian enterprises already running on Microsoft 365 — a very large cohort including most mid-market companies and large corporates — this is the most natural AI entry point. The meeting summary in Teams alone can save 30 minutes per meeting across a 50-person organisation, delivering ROI within weeks of deployment.
