The Siri Transformation
Apple delivered the major Siri overhaul in iOS 19 beta, released to developers in August 2025. This was the update Apple had promised at WWDC 2024 — a comprehensive rebuild of Siri's natural language understanding, contextual awareness, and action capabilities that had been delayed from the original iOS 18.2 target.
The new Siri could maintain conversational context across multiple exchanges without needing to restate context. "Send the email I was just drafting to John from marketing" now worked even if Siri had to switch apps to find John's email address — maintaining the context of the entire request across multiple steps.
Screen Context Awareness
The most practically significant new capability was screen awareness. Siri could now see what was displayed on screen (with user permission) and take actions based on it. Looking at a recipe and saying "add these ingredients to my shopping list" had Siri extract the ingredient list from the visible content and add each to Reminders. Reading an article and asking "when was this written?" had Siri find the publication date without searching externally.
App Intents Expansion
Apple significantly expanded App Intents — the developer API that lets third-party apps expose specific actions to Siri. With iOS 19, Siri could take granular actions inside third-party apps: compose a WhatsApp message to a specific contact, create a task in a project management app with specific properties, or trigger specific workflows in automation apps — all from voice or text Siri input.
ChatGPT Integration Deepening
The ChatGPT integration, first available in iOS 18.4, expanded in iOS 19 to include vision queries (Siri could pass your camera view to ChatGPT for analysis) and became more seamless in handoff — the transition from Siri's response to ChatGPT-powered responses was smoother, with visual indication that ChatGPT was handling the query rather than an abrupt context switch.
What This Means for Indian Businesses
The Siri overhaul dramatically increases the practical utility of iPhones for Indian professional users. Screen context means Siri can discuss what you're looking at — pull up a vendor's website and ask Siri to draft an email introducing your company to them, and Siri uses the page content to personalise the email. For Indian iPhone users, this means a significantly more capable personal AI assistant without any additional subscription, running on hardware they already own.
